TIBET AID
Medical Relief Project
TIBETAN SPONSORSHIP PROJECT
GARGON SCHOOL PROJECT
Tibet Aid's Medical Relief Project grew out of inquiries from sponsors about what they could do to help Tibetan monks and nuns in exile. Simultaneously, Tibet Aid was receiving requests for assistance in looking after the health needs of monks and nuns from the Department of Health of the Central Tibetan Administration of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama and from the Sera Jhe Health Care Committee at Sera Mahayana Buddhist University.
Tibetans fleeing from their homeland in the high Himalyaya Mountains frequently encounter illnesses as they strive to adapt to their new surroundings. The incidence of tuberculosis, in particular, which is virtually unknown in Tibet, has skyrocketed among Tibetans living in exile in southern India, along with the costs of treatment. The Sera Jhe Health Care Committee serves the monks of Sera Jhe Monastery, as well as the surrounding Tibetan community at Byalakuppe. Funds donated to the Medical Relief Project provide for a vast array of health services, including diagnosis, medicines, doctors' fees, special meals, and hospital charges.
