At the request of a generous donor, TIBET AID established an endowment fund, the
Traditional Tibetan Clothing Fund, to support the hand-crafting of traditional Tibetan
clothing and costumes for Tibetan refugee children at the Tibetan Children's Villages in northern
India and Nepal. Tibetan children wear these beautiful garmets during cultural events, festivals,
and performances. All traditional costumes and ornaments are prepared and made by Tibetan weavers,
tailors and crafts-workers.
The Traditional Tibetan Clothing Fund was created by
Rex Niswander
as a gift to his wife, Sonoko, on their 25th wedding anniversary. Each year, proceeds from the
Traditional Tibetan Clothing Fund will go to Tibetan artisans who will
craft authentic Tibetan costumes and clothing for orphaned, impoverished, and destitute
Tibetan children. Contributions to the Traditional Tibetan Clothing Fund can be distributed
immediately or designated to supplement the endowment, which will mature over five years to become a
self-renewing resource for the handcrafting of traditional Tibetan garments for Tibetan children.
For further information or to contribute to the Traditional Tibetan Clothing Fund, please contact Tibet Aid
by telephone (1-877-TIBET-AID = 1-877-842-3824), email (info@tibetaid.org) or via the internet
